Redistricting: What Does it Mean for You?

January 27, 2022 at 3 pm, we will sit down (virtually) with Robb Korinke of the GrassrootsLab think tank and Dr. Kenneth P. Miller of the Rose Institute of State and Local Government at Claremont McKenna College.

to discuss the process and implications of the recent redistricting - a major political process which decides spheres of influence and has direct bearing on all of us, yet slips under the radar for many citizens.

This talk will be moderated by Bill Ruh, Mayor Pro Tem of the City of Montclair and Governmental Affairs Director at Citrus Valley Association of Realtors.

Bios

Robb Korinke

Robb Korinke leads GrassrootsLab's client activities in Southern California, and specializes in state and local government, open data and transparency issues, digital communications and community engagement. He served 4 years as the Executive Director of the Los Angeles League of Cities and has worked with local governments on key policy issues going back to 2004. He is also the Publishing Editor of CaliforniaCityNews.org, CaliforniaCountyNews.org and CaliforniaPropositions.org.

At GrassrootsLab, Robb has led efforts for a wide range of non-profit, advocacy and local government clients. Clients include the Counties of Los Angeles and Mariposa, Cities of Santa Ana, Sacramento and others, the Southern California Association of Governments, Southern California Edison, Scotts Miracle Gro Company, the Los Angeles County Business Federation, California Forward, California Medical Association, League of California Cities, Rincon Band of Luiseno Indians, Paskenta Band of Nomlaki Indians, and many others. He lives in Long Beach, California, where he was recently appointed Chair of Mayor Robert Garcia’s Technology & Innovation Commission. He also sits on the Board of Directors of the University of Southern California Athenian Society.

He is a graduate of the University of Southern California, where he studied English Literature and Public Policy. He lives in Long Beach, California.

Dr. Kenneth Miller

Kenneth P. Miller is a professor of Government at Claremont McKenna College, specializing in state politics, policy, and law. Miller is the Director of the Rose Institute of State and Local Government, a research institute known for its expertise in redistricting, elections, demographic research, and public policy analysis. He has written extensively on state politics and policy, direct democracy, constitutional law, courts, and political polarization. He is a member of the California State Bar Association and the American Political Science Association. He has been a visiting scholar at Princeton University's James Madison Program in American Ideals and Institutions and Southern Methodist University’s John Goodwin Tower Center for Public Policy and International Affairs.

Bill Ruh

William “Bill” Ruh was elected to the City Council in November 1998. Bill also serves on several City Council committees including the Education, Human Services, Legislative/Intergovernmental, Personnel, and Tri-City Gold Line Committees, as well as the Community Activities Commission Interview Panel. In addition, he is the Council liaison to the Montclair Chamber of Commerce and the Community Activities Commission. He served as Mayor Pro Tem from 2012 through 2014. Bill was appointed by the City to the Oversight Board for the Successor Agency to the City of Montclair Redevelopment Agency and was Chair of the Board during its existence from 2012 through 2018.

Bill has served on boards and committees for numerous philanthropic and charitable organizations, including the following: OPARC; Red Cross Inland Empire Chapter; Ontario-Montclair YMCA; Community Action Partnership of San Bernardino County; Chaffey College Foundation; and Assistance League of the Foothill Communities.

Bill received a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science from the University of La Verne and has pursued a professional career in Legislative/Government Affairs and Public Policy. He has worked for the California State Assembly and Senate, as well as the U. S. House of Representatives. At present, he coordinates Public Policy and Governmental Affairs for the Real Estate Industry. Bill is a lifetime resident of Montclair.
