The east and west ends of the valley each boast a world-famous theological seminary, Claremont School of Theology in the east and Fuller Theological Seminary in the west.
Additionally, Azusa Pacific University is a Christian-based liberal arts college in the center of the valley.
Two secular universities with religious roots are here as well. University of La Verne (like the city of La Verne itself) is rooted in the egalitarian philosophy of the Church of the Brethren, which founded it.
Similarly, University of the West has diversified its programs to offer liberal arts education, but continues its original mission to train Buddhist clergy.
