Matthew Lyons serves as the Director of Public Policy for the Partnership. He serves as the primary liaison with San Gabriel Valley elected officials and oversees all political advocacy and engagement efforts. As Director, Matthew manages the Partnership’s Legislative Action Committee and travels to Sacramento and Washington, D.C. to advocate for critical legislation on behalf of the Partnership.
A San Gabriel Valley native, Matthew grew up in San Dimas and attended public schools in Bonita Unified School District. After graduating from San Dimas High School, Matthew attended Citrus College and Cal Poly Pomona earning a B.A. in Behavioral Sciences. He has also completed the University of La Verne’s Community Leadership Certificate Program and is a San Dimas Chamber of Commerce Civic Academy Graduate.
Immediately prior to joining the Partnership, Matthew served as Deputy District Director for the CA State Assemblymember Chris Holden where he provided constituent services, community outreach and engagement to the cities in the 41st Assembly District. Matthew supported the advancement of over 200 Assembly Bills that have been signed into law and the delivery of over $85 million in state budget appropriations for local priorities including infrastructure repair and improvements, protection of green space, and expansion of regional transportation solutions.
Matthew also worked for over 12 years in the insurance industry, first working in management for Allstate Insurance Company and then establishing and maintaining his own award-winning Allstate Insurance Agency in Upland until he sold it in June 2012.
Matthew has lived in La Verne since 2002 with Elizabeth, his wife of 25 years. He has one college-aged son, Evan, who is in his second year attending the University of La Verne studying Political Science.
Matthew has been active in Bonita Unified School District since his son was in kindergarten. He served on several school site councils and in numerous PTA positions including PTA President of Ramona Middle School until he was appointed to the Bonita Unified School Board and served as a Governing Board Member from 2017 to 2020. He concurrently served on the San Antonio Regional Occupational Program Board of Directors and was elected President of the Board in 2019.
Matthew has worked on political campaigns at both the local and state level and was Democrat of the Year for the 41st Assembly District in 2017.
